Lost and Found. « Thread Started on Jun 10, 2008, 5:32pm »
It had been a whole week that he had been away, and although he needed desperately to get away for that time, he knew that he needed to be with his family more and running away had only been a temporary solution to his rather large and complicated problem. Besides, he felt like a total coward and knew that running away from his problems never helped in the past. He was better off facing his problems with whatever strength he could muster and he knew his family would be able to help him a great deal.
Being around Tanya and her clan was both rewarding and difficult; Rewarding because he was far away from Forks and they all understood his problem upon finding a Singer, difficult because they were all much older than he was and by a great margin. So although they understood what he had been struggling with, the struggle for them was very far away in time, and being the weakest vampire there was...demeaning. His pride was ever the issue when it came to weakness and struggle. He had been, up to that point, in total control against his vampiric nature. Shame burned again like the venom in his mouth, especially when he knew that his entire family would know what happened. They knew he ran away.
Ultimately, it didn’t matter to him. He needed to be here, no matter what it made him feel on his shallow end. He didn’t need to pretend to be anything with his family, so at least there was that comfort. Because even in Denali, he had to pretend to have more control than he actually did. It didn’t matter that they probably knew he was trying very hard to keep it together. He breathed a deep sigh of relief as he sped the Mercedes onward towards the house. He was in familiar territory now, and everything was telling him, from the forest to the sky, that he was home.
He rolled all of the windows down in Carlisle’s Mercedes, eager to take in the air of his current hometown. He had to admit it, this was already turning into the most interesting place they had ever lived. He would surely never forget it when they all moved on.
That thought hadn’t ever caused him to wince before, and he just had. How was that to be explained? They all knew that their homes, however great, would always have to be left behind. No matter how much they liked it, they couldn’t play house for too long before people started to catch on. Not that they ever had a chance. One day out of the blue, the Cullens would be gone without much explanation, never to be seen again.
Edward jerked slightly in his seat as if reacting to being physically hit with something. Whenever he thought of leaving Forks in the past, he was relieved and tired of this place. But just then, when he thought of leaving, it caused him to react. It was no mystery, though he tried to lie to himself, as to why he was suddenly resisting the thought of leaving. And she had a name.
“Isabella, you are making things quite complicated for me.” He said sarcastically.
The familiar twist in the road suddenly came into view, and the relief that he felt was so intense that he smiled. He was so inexplicably glad to be home, but that didn’t stop the negative feelings from creeping up on him. The smile faded, and his lips settled into a straight line. He drove the Mercedes to the front of the house and parked it in front of one of the garage spaces right beside his Volvo. He killed the engine and simply sat for moment, waiting.

NOW YOU'RE COMING, YOU'RE COMING ON HOME I'll be good like I know I should, you're coming home
The house was silent as it always was. Their family had worn out every conversation and there was nothing new to talk about. Alice was on their pointlessly purchased bed, curled up on her side, hugging her legs with her had buried into her knees. As she lay she could hear the gentle hum of the TV downstairs, movement in the room next to her and the soft stir of Jasper as he lay next to her reading his book. Like normal it was like any other night for them, except they where missing one thing missing, Edward. While the empty presence was noticed by the others, if did effect their normal routine. They could watch the TV, snuggle with a loved one, read a book but Alice could not talk with her sibling. Sure she had Emmett or even Jasper to talk to, but it just was not the same.
Gently she turned over, resting her head on Jasper’s chest. Her golden eyes -bright from a recent feed- looked up at the ceiling. As Alice studied all the little details of the plaster work; the room melted around her, as her eyes became glazed and distant. To anybody who did not know her they would think that she was sleeping with her eyes open, but the truth was she was seeing something that was not yet here, but was coming. “Edward” her lips breathed, the room coming back to her, as the vision of him hugging Tanya and the others good bye. He was coming home.
Sitting up lightly her little figure shimmed along until her bottom was on the edge of the, where she leapt gleefully across the room, landing neatly in the middle. Pausing for a split second Alice turned back to face her husband, his book was now lowered slightly and his curious look met her one of pure glee. Though she did not say a word, she just raised both of her thumbs giving him a positive gesture before she skipped from the room.
Missing the last two steps Alice landed gracefully at the bottom. Turning in her own way, she danced to the door way and gently popped her head round the corner. “Edward coming home” she announced to the group that was there and loud enough so the others around the house would hear the news. “He should be here by the end of the day” Alice grinned, coming back up straight to await her brother’s return on the bottom step of the stairs.
-------
Hours past, but Alice did not move. She sat with her back rested on the bottom step, her legs crossed and her eyes closed so she looked like she was mediating. But all that watched her knew Alice was watching Edwards progress, in Carlisle’s car. Every so often she would announce where he was and how far away he was from home, while the others watched her or got on with whatever they where doing. She was not aware of any of them; her mind was totally focused on what Edward was doing. As she could not wait to have him home, it was not the same without him however much she regretted admitting it, Alice really had missed him.
“He’s in Forks…he coming down the road...he is coming down the drive…HE’S HERE” Alice voice sounded, getting slightly more higher pitched as he came closer and closer. Though as the sound of his car announced he was home, she jumped up in a flash to her feet rushed to garage door. Pausing with her hand on the door, Alice composed herself, as she knew that him coming home was going to cause more problems that it solved. However her sheer glee that her brother had finally come home was shining from her and she could not help but yank open the door, and run to the driver’s side of the car.
Bending down, so her head was looking at him through the window, her voice chimed. “Does this mean we have to take the Volvo again, I was rather enjoying riding in Rosalie’s car” Alice smirked widely, winking playfully at Edward as she stepped back to let him get out.

To be honest, the house had gotten dreadfully boring without Edward. It had also gotten eerily quiet without hearing his piano playing at random hours of the day. Jasper missed Edward and while he was not the type to verbally speak his feelings the majority of the time, he was sure the rest of the house must know how he was. In fact, they all missed him. It varied for how much they missed him depending on how close they were to him. Alice, for sure, missed him the most; Jasper could feel it. He didn't like when she was sad such as this, but Jasper knew it was just how it would be until Edward would return.
Jasper flicked the page of the book easily. He was trying to read the book as slow as he could, but it was extremely hard for a vampire to do. He had read this book before as well and this was only the second time he was reading it, surprisingly enough. He had various books on his book shelves that Jasper had read much too often to be normal. Then again, Jasper wasn't normal. He read at an inhuman speed and he couldn't help but move through books quickly. He flicked to the next page already, trying to get himself to slow down once again; it really was difficult to read slowly for him.
Alice was curled up next to him as he read. But, in a matter of moments, she had rolled over and was resting her head on his chest. Her head did not move as Jasper was not breathing; he did not breath if it wasn't necessary. He breathed when he was around humans, but never when he was just with the members of his coven. Jasper's eyes bounced from the book and looked down at Alice, her expression having changed. He knew that look. She was watching for Edward again, but then Jasper heard Edward's name roll of Alice's lips. Edward? Was he coming home?
Alice sprung of the bed and landed gracefully on the floor. Jasper moved the book out of the front of his face and gave his wife a look of curiosity. She had yet to confirm he was returned, yet Jasper really hadn't even asked the question. However, Jasper could feel the change of emotions in her. He could feel the miserable ones being kicked out of the way by the happy, excited ones. Jasper still had not asked the question that was lingering on his lips, but then spotted her happy gesture and the thumbs up. Yep -- Edward was on his way home.
While Alice waited downstairs, Jasper stayed up in his room and continued to read his book. Jasper could still hear the same sounds coming from downstairs, except this time he would hear Alice's voice every so often let the others know Edward's current progress. Jasper also lived outside for the engine of Edward's silver Volvo, but Jasper knew he would hear Alice's voice telling of his approach before Jasper would even hear his car. Jasper closed his book as he heard Alice speak that he was coming down the road. He got up and shoved his book in his correct place on his book shelf as he heard the door fling open downstairs at Alice's exit. Jasper then headed down the stairs to meet Edward as he came inside the door.

The house without Edward was a dull one indeed. Carlisle loved his wife and each of his children equally, but he did have a soft spot for Edward. He had been the first to appease his loneliness and he looked at him always with respect, and great love. The simple fact was that he really was missing him while he was away. Carlisle would never force his son to come home before he was ready, however. He figured that time away from Forks would only do him good. This way he could have some time alone where he could ponder what he should do or how he should react to the situation. If Edward hadn’t decided to go to the sisters, Carlisle might have suggested it himself. He only wished that his son would come back with a solution and hoped this wasn’t merely optimism on his part.
Carlisle understood his reasons for leaving, of course. This new girl was causing Edward more trouble than he wanted. He had initially meant for Rosalie to be his son’s mate, but they hadn’t been this for each other. He had never thought he would ever have these sorts of feelings towards a human girl, but he supposed there had to be something very special about her for this to happen. He worried about the girl’s safety for if she were to reciprocate Edward’s feelings, she would be in danger all the time. Edward was able to deal with human blood well, but Carlisle could only imagine what could happen if things ever got out of hand.
Perhaps he was reading too much into this, but Edward had needed to leave Forks to get away from the girl for some time. Carlisle could only imagine the effect she had on Edward for him to actually need to leave the town. To get his mind off of his son, he decided to head to work early that day. He had the day off for once, but he couldn’t stay home with all of the long faces. Granted, the Cullens were trying to busy themselves with their favorite hobbies, but Carlisle could read each of them well and knew they wanted Edward home as soon as possible. Since his son had taken his car with him, he borrowed Esme’s car to drive to work. He pondered the thought of asking one of his fellow doctors to give him a ride, but he believed it was best to avoid this.
Work passed much too quickly for his liking. There were always many patients who needed tending. Some of them were quite familiar, being rather accident prone, and others newcomers. Carlisle chatted with them freely, making jokes whenever he felt himself worry about Edward once again. In general, those who worked at the hospital seemed to find him to be very charming. He didn’t mind this at all. He enjoyed making others smile and laugh, and if this came off as charming then he wasn’t going to complain. Carlisle was a very humble, modest person in his opinion of himself. At the end of the day he was just Carlisle, a being who wanted to help people, and who wanted to take care of his family.
When everyone at the hospital suggested he should go home, he decided to comply. Carlisle wasn’t sure if Edward had decided to come home that day or not, but perhaps he could cheer the other Cullens up a bit. He didn’t know what his presence could offer them in the hopes that they would feel better if he was there, but it wouldn’t hurt to try and make them smile. As he headed home, Carlisle turned on the radio, and listened to some slow Jazz tunes that calmed him down. Just as he reached the house, he saw his car. At first this confused him, because why would his car be there if he was driving home right now? Suddenly Carlisle remembered that he had given it to Edward. A huge grin popped onto his lips as he knew that Edward was home and soon enough, he saw his son coming out of the car.
Trying not to speed in the car was difficult because of his excitement, but Carlisle most certainly didn’t want to get into an accident. He parked Esme’s car right next to his own and got out, happy that finally everything at home would be the way it should be again.”Welcome home, Edward.” Those were only a few simple words, but the joyous expression on Carlisle’s face said so much more than that. He wanted Edward to know that he was so happy that he was back home. Sure, they would have to talk about this girl at some point and what Edward was going to do about her, but for now they could just celebrate. Having arrived just as Alice said her comment, he replied, “I’m sure Rosalie wouldn’t mind letting you borrow her car once in awhile, Alice.” Carlisle chuckled a bit, following them both inside.

Edward heard the tinkering of the Mercedes when the engine was cut off. Perhaps the car would be glad for a rest. He had been driving for hours and hours. It might have been faster if he had simply run all the way there, but the car served him as a shield from the outside world. He didn't have to smell, touch, or experience anything but the road. It was safer for everyone that way. But he had been away for too long, so much so that just being parked in their house's driveway made him so happy, happier than he had been in quite a long time. How he had ever left them in the first place, he wouldn't ever know or understand.
Tanya's clan had been both inviting and helpful, but even their hospitality wasn't enough to make him want to stay. In the beautiful white tundra of Alaska, he had found some clarity of mind. He had withdrawn himself from Isabella Swan's enticing smell, bringing him back to himself. But in doing so he began to feel something else in its place. A fierce craving took hold of him now, knowing what the scent would do to him yet wanting it so much that it hurt. But perhaps part of it wasn't the scent itself. It's true, her blood sang to him, called to him. He was addicted to it. But the scent -belonged- to the girl, not the other way around. So in some small but unimagineable way, he was craving her.
His thoughts were suddenly torn from him when he heard Alice's familiar mind come into view. He didn't seek her thoughts, in fact he shut his mind to her mind immediately, not wanting to invade. He turned sharply to his side where she now stood smiling over him. He stepped out of the car and grabbed her in his arms and hugged her tightly. "Hey, Pixie." He almost spoke in a whisper, so happy was he. "You didn't move all of my things into the garage did you?" He remembered their first meeting. He released her gently out of his tight hold and finally, a smile spread across his face. "You knew I was coming back, didn't you?" He laughed a bit at her comment. "How could I stay away?"
Quietly, Carlisle came to his side as well, and the look in his face was enough to make Edward feel shame as he never felt. Carlisle was so happy to see him again, and he couldn't quite explain why it made him feel so guilty. Carlisle was his father in every sense of the word. He had given him life when all he had was death. He raised him and taught him, believed in him and helped him. He attempted to smile back at Carlisle, but he was emotionally drained and exhausted, yet even that couldn't keep him from reciprocating. "Hey, Dad." He said, hugging him tightly as he had Alice. "How have things been going without me around?"
He looked just past the garage and could see the entrance to their house, and there he saw Jasper, waiting to greet him. Edward nodded to him, sure that he would see the greeting. He wanted to know how everyone had been while he was away. "I suspect you all want me to explain what happened? I know Alice told you what she knew. But, even if you don't ask me what happened, I need to explain. I must." Edward sighed heavily. "It's all I can think about. It's all that's been on my mind. It was a long drive, so I had a lot of time to think things through."
His head was inclined downward, so many things were happening at once. And Bella was ever in his mind. Even now he wanted to catch her scent again, just to face his fears. he didn't want to hide from it anymore. He didn't want to have to run away. He was Edward Cullen. He had been trained to withstand the lure of blood, even if it was that of his Singer.

Alice knew what was coming; she waited for it, watching his every move from when he opened the door until he rapped his cold stone arms around her. Her response was simple she rapped her arms tightly around him, squeezing herself into his stone chest. She had missed him, even if he was annoying at moments and put a damper on her fun he was her brother and she had missed him. This emotion was clear in her thoughts, but Alice knew only to well that he was respecting her privacy so conveyed it through her hug. And as his arms rapped around her small frame, lifting her off the ground slightly she knew he had missed her to. Though she always –deep down- knew he would have. Edward and her where a team, they where brother and sister, they where connected and that would never change.
“Hey spitfire” she replied, grinning up at his face though from her perspective it was more his collar and chin, as he placed her down on the ground. “No, why would I ever do a thing like that, it is not like you have the best room. No bathroom and you closet is the size of a toothpick” she answered honestly, grinning still and dancing off to Jasper’s side. “However I did find your keys to you posh car. Hiding them in a 90s disco CD, nice touch” Alice laughed musically. “Though I did not get a chance to take it for a spin, Esme was baking, she killed a cat” her words rolled off her tongue, as if she was informing of a events after he had got back from a shopping trip. Not trying to prevent himself from killing a girl. Though that was how Alice’s mind worked, she forgot about all that all that mattered was that Edward was home.
“Yes, and no” Alice voice sang as she answered both Edward and Carlisle, looking at each of them as she responded. “I saw you hours ago, leaving Denali. I think my countdown gave it away to the whole house. Anyway what physic I be, if you popped home without me knowing” she smirked, leaping up the step back into the house talking over her shoulder. “And Carlisle do ever think anyone would let me drive their car, no-one trusts me…it is not like I would crash it or anything. I know there was that one time, but honestly it was the tree’s fault, it jumped out at me. I need my own car.”
Hanging about at the door, scared to let her brother out of her sight, even if she knew he was not going anywhere she did not want to leave him, Alice let up against the other side of the frame to Jasper, her pixie face poking round the corner. Though she was still smiling, with the joy that Edward had come back to home, the reality of the situation came back into focus. It was clear on Edwards’s face that it was hard from him to come home, even if being away from them was hard, seeing Bella was going to be even worse. Though Alice knew she would be there, she could not hold his hand through the biology lesson, all she could do was watch out for him, whenever she could.
Standing back up straight, Alice moved back into the garage and back to her brother’s side. “You know you don’t have to, but it might help” she said brightly, her sharp features serious as the corner of her mouth twitched into a smile. “I mean I think we get the general idea, she is your singer. But whatever you decide, I shall be in the living room with Jasper.” Hugging him lightly once more, she danced off to the door, taking Jasper’s hand and moving with him into the living room, taking a seat on the floor at Jaspers legs.

Now that Edward was home, there was questioning in Carlisle’s mind about what they would do next. In a normal, human family a son taking an interest in a girl wouldn't have been a problem. People found others interesting all the time. Edward was a responsible man and despite the trouble this girl was causing, there had to be something about her that was special. But they weren’t this. They were vampires and had joined together for years to resist the taste of human blood. This girl’s blood sang for Edward, so she wasn’t just another human girl. This would turn out to be probably one of the most dangerous and difficult challenges his son would face. It was hard to fathom how Edward would be able to go to school where there was a girl whose blood he craved so much.
Nevertheless, Carlisle had confidence in Edward. He hadn’t succumbed to his want for human blood all these years and he knew that with the support from his family, he would be able to hold back. If that meant taking Edward out of school for a little longer, he would agree to this. Carlisle would have one of the other children get Edward his schoolwork, so that could help distract Edward from the girl’s blood. Whatever overcoming this feat required, Carlisle would do it. Ultimately it was up to his son, but he would be there every step of the way. Hopefully Edward would realize this.
They were a family now. Carlisle’s lonely years where he had been the only vegetarian vampire he knew were over. Their family had been through quite a bit together. Each member that was added offered something new to their ensemble and he was pleased by this. Of course, they still seemed to be missing one. Carlisle couldn’t imagine what he would do without Esme. Although he had lived for hundreds of years without her, now it was impossible to even think about. If he ever were to lose her… he had no idea how he would manage. He saw the loneliness in the way Edward acted. Whenever he played the piano, he wondered what he put into the music that made it so beautiful. Maybe it was his longing for someone to share it with, though honestly Carlisle had never asked.
As Edward turned to embrace him, he returned the hug in a fatherly manner. This was perhaps a bit funny for him to say, but Carlisle loved hugs. The person who gave the best ones was Esme. Personally he thought it was amazing, how one could just hug her and when they stopped they felt so much better. He was a happy individual, but this didn’t stop him from wanting them on a regular basis because they were so comforting. Edward gave wonderful hugs as well. Honestly Carlisle was so relieved that he had made it home safely. He hadn’t been expecting his son to get into a car accident or anything of that sort, but he had thought maybe he would see him in pieces. As it was, he did look to be quite confused, but hopefully as a family they could work this out together.
The last thing Edward needed was to learn that everyone had been missing him like crazy. Of course, they had, but he had so much on his mind right now and Carlisle didn’t want to put even more weight on his shoulders. Besides, Edward had needed to go so he could have some time to ponder by himself. Making a decision and figuring out what to do in situations like this was a serious matter. Most likely Edward wouldn’t have been able to find much peace and quiet in the house, at least during most parts of the day. Every one of the Cullens were too social for that. Often Carlisle and Edward would stay up talking about almost anything, and since they never needed to sleep the rest of the family would normally join them. This was what he had always dreamed of having and he finally had it. The idea that something could disrupt their peace was very unsettling.
“They’ve been fine, son,” Carlisle replied in an assuring tone. He refused to betray his worries across his face, simply because Edward shouldn’t have to deal with anything more on his plate in that moment. Yes, they all had some catching up to do and Edward would need to explain what was happening to the Cullen family. But he honestly didn’t understand why they should do this straight away unless Edward wanted to speak about it. Carlisle didn’t want to avoid the subject of any topic in their house. It was a place where any of the Cullens could express their thoughts freely. He wouldn’t have any objections if Edward wanted to tell them what had happened on this trip as soon as his feet touched the doorstep, this was all up to him. “Would you like to relax first, Edward? Or should I have everyone come to the living room?” Carlisle asked. He would be happy to do either for him. Even if he wanted to relax, it would be best to call everyone down so they could at least say hi to Edward.
After saying this, Carlisle turned towards Alice. He didn't want to appear as if he had been ignoring her the whole time. He had just wanted to make Edward feel welcome and to let him know it was okay that he had to leave for awhile. “Well perhaps we should work on getting you a car, then?” Carlise replied, with a twinkle in his eye. He didn't mind. He hadn't been aware that Alice wanted one, but money wasn't an issue for them. He was a doctor and they had saved so much money over the years. Even when he had traveled and hadn't worked for awhile while he was alone, he had been fine money wise.

The moment that Alice had shared her news that Edward was coming home Esme had not been able to hide her absolute delight. The house had been so deathly quiet with out him, without his talent on the piano, his music flittering from his room or the humorous silly arguments and teasing between he and Alice. Though she would never openly admit it to herself yet alone anyone else her heart would always had a special soft spot for Edward. The first of her adopted 'children'. Since her childhood he and Carlisle had become the first proper family she had ever known Naturally she was not sure Edward had liked her at first, certainly he had seemed very distant but Esme had grown to love him instantly though terribly frightened of his gifts and how he might tell Carlisle for the obvious affection that spilt in her thoughts for him.
She had missed him terribly, their family seeming to have a huge gap cut into it without it's presence. How she had worried about him, oh she knew the Alaskan clan would take good care of him, she had still worried no matter how foolish she really knew it was. Edward was older then she and certainly knew how to handle himself but that swelling mothers hard could not help it's deep worry, imagining all these terrible things that could befall him.
She had been working when Alice happily cried that Edward would be here any moment working on an antique clock fiddling with the awkward screws and cogs to distract her mind from wondering to Edward pondering when he would be home, working out how long it would take to get from Alaska, if he was alright. If they should move to aid him, if he could manage against this 'singer'. But she had no doubt in Edward's reserve, he was strong and as fiercely willed as her husband she had no doubt Edward out of all of them would be able to battle it far more then any other.
Having had to place down her tools she had promptly hurried down the stairs, slipping silently out into the drive a huge smile upon her face at the sight of Edward. Safe and sound. She could only grin happily watching as he was greeted and hugged by her husband and children. Truly it was a beautiful scene regardless of what had caused it to take place, to be reunited as a family once more. She took absolutely no problem in happily waiting patiently, absolutely beaming with a utter delight as Alice returned to her slight teasing. Normality. Oh how she had missed it.
She paused not a moment when the others had finished expressing their delight in crossing over. Pretty heart shaped features absolutely alight with that huge beam. "Edward," She smiled with such a true happiness in seconds her arms around him in a huge embrace. For the next few minutes all thought of the reason why he had been forced to leave were gone, all worry of what the future might hold and the troubles he would have to face quite gone from her mind replace with the mothers joy of rekindling with her son. When she finally pulled away she looked up at him with those large golden eyes lightly sparkling with what may have once when she was human have been tears.
She only then tuned in with the light conversations around her. "I'm just glad your home." She said little more knowing that was enough to convey how truthfully delighted she was to have him back and how she had missed him. "No matter what you know we're here to stand by you and help the best we can." She promised with such a sincerity having certainly given this entire situation considerable thought although she was well aware no matter how much she wished she could not just wave a magic wand and make this wall vanish… it was Edward who would have to suffer through and all they could hope was that in someway they could help.

Rosalie had been virtually shopping for clothes at her leisure when Alice's voice chimed like a bell, ringing forth from below. The fingers Rosalie had been strumming against her modern, chic desktop came to a halt, her clicking abruptly stopping. The muscles of her elegant neck pulsed beneath her pale skin as she turned her head in the direction of the doorway, which stood slightly ajar. She rose and took hold of the doorknob, then wondered what would be the point of joining her family in anticipation. The door clicked shut instead, the white blonde figure returning to her perch at the computer desk. The clicking begin, frenzied now, as Rosalie scrolled through pages of tops, bottoms, and shoes, all of which very interesting but merely serving as a distraction. A vampire's life may have been a very long one indeed, requiring patience which Rosalie certainly met, but that did not evaporate her rekindled feeling of anxiety. Edward was coming home; her somber, if not downright melodramatic, brother would soon be here.
Truly, out of the entire family, none shared such a traditional, nor unique, feeling of siblinghood than did Edward and Rosalie. Having hoped that the two might develop a romantic interest for the other, Carlisle had surely been in for a surprise after changing Rosalie. The very instant she had heard Edward's voice (and she had heard him before she had seen him), Rosalie had been annoyed. Edward's sureness, and almost every other one of his traits, irritated Rosalie to almost no end, but perhaps it was this typical bond that made her love Edward all the more. The two stoic vampires would rarely be seen doing much together, true, but both held a level of somberness akin to each other, making it difficult not to enjoy the other's company at least once in a while.
And frankly, Rosalie did not want to sit amiss the excitement, knowing all to well the feeling would also begin to seep into her, making it difficult to stay agitated with Edward. Alice had shed light onto the situation entire, there was that, but she wanted to hear it from Edward's perspective. His dramatic exit had only served to make this situation all the more mysterious, and that irked Rosalie, for she was a woman who liked the truth immediately handed to her (a task Emmett more than fulfilled with his blunt and honest nature). Instead, she remained shut up in her room, the gray day Forks presented, not at all surprisingly, floating lazily through the open bedroom window.
Hours later, after Rosalie had made her purchases and abandoned the virtual world of clothes, Rosalie lounged like a cat upon the room's love seat, eyes closed and listening to the gentle thrum of music beating from the stereo. Something other than gentle notes upon a bar flitted to her senses, threading through the stereo's voice, enabling her shut eyes to open, revealing two large, sparkling gold irises. Edward was obviously home, due to the low cheers and excited rabble. Rosalie straightened, pushing from the sofa and gliding to the window, leaning out into the darkening day. Hers and Emmett's room gave a good view of the driveway, not necessarily clear, but one that sported the images of parked cars and the figures of Carlisle, Edward, Esme, and briefly Alice and Jasper. Emmett was not in sight, but Rosalie knew her husband was around, and would soon be greeting Edward in a manner that was common to Emmett: full of energy, laughter, and excitement.
Relinquishing her hold of the window sill, Rosalie turned and exited the room, soon descending the stairs. She had overheard Alice's commentary, and chose to join her and Jasper in the living room, rather than privileging Edward with her immediate presence. It was her nature, after all, one that was expected and therefor didn't offended. Silently, Rosalie sat upon one of the sofas noncommittally, curling her jeaned legs beneath her, giving the room's entrance a nonchalant glance, waiting for the approaching group.

Edward chuckled at his sister, feeling the first tingling of happiness sink in. “Spitfire, huh?” He thought about that for a moment. “And why would that be the nickname you’ve given me?” He grinned. “True about the room. But I can never be too sure of you while I’m gone, can I? I mean who knows? My stuff might have miraculously ended up in a dumpster someplace just because the mood struck you.” He nudged her in her side playfully. He laughed at her next comments. “The disco CD?” He owned a disco CD? Edward glanced sidelong at Carlisle and smiled as if to say Disco? Really? “You can thank Carlisle for that stroke of genius.” He was of course referring to the fact that Carlisle had switched cars with him a few days ago at the hospital. He walked a few steps and doubled back to ask, “Esme killed a cat?” He raised a brow and shook his head. “Ew.”
Walking towards the house made him remember his task at hand. It wasn’t as if he were just returning home from a short vacation or something of leisure. He was coming back home after nearly murdering a large number of the teenagers that lived in Forks Washington, Bella Swan included. His drive home from Denali was long, and he thought of this moment the entire way. He imagined this very moment very similarly to the way it played out, minus the news about Esme and the cat. That was a nice little addition.
Carlisle had just presented him with a very appealing offer. Would he care to let everyone know exactly what happened right at this moment? Not really. In fact it was the last thing he wanted to do. Or would he rather go upstairs and think it through some more? Possibly. He wasn’t sure. If he did go upstairs for a while on his own, he knew the only thing he would be doing was putting it off and running away from a difficult situation. It wasn’t his way usually. On a normal day he’d be perfectly honest with you whether you liked it or not. He figured it was only fair when he could get any truth out of you that he wanted without trying very hard. In addition to that, you’d never know he was eavesdropping on your very thoughts. But ultimately he knew what he needed to do.
He smiled weakly up at Carlisle and Alice. He turned towards his petite sister and sighed. “I know. It would be easier to wait, to put it off...I just can’t you all need to know what happened.” He grinned wide at Alice, but there was a profound sadness behind his dark eyes. “Aside for what you saw, that is. Even you must know everything.” He wrapped an arm around her shoulders as they made their way through the doorway. “No, I think it’s best if I just lay it all on the table now rather than later. The longer I put it off the less I’ll want to talk about it. I’m just...” Scared. Terrified. Embarrassed. Worried. Ashamed. So many things I don’t want to face or remember. “Well, you know.”
Alice gave her final parting and terribly comforting words along with a short but meaningful hug, and made her way to the living room with Jasper. She must have already known that his mind was made up and that he had already made his decision. He felt like Jasper was the one he ought to really talk to. He would understand it. But maybe that was a selfish sort of wish. He wanted to open up to Jasper about his own weakness because he knew Jasper had struggles against human blood regularly. He was ashamed to even think that he could feel better about his own issues because Jasper felt them. He sighed deeply and walked into the living room.
But before he could make his way into their large sitting room, Esme said his name. The sound of his name coming from her was enough to shatter whatever resolve he had been feeling at the time. He folded into her arms and had no want or need to leave. The only thing he thought over and over was: I don’t deserve this...I don’t deserve any of it... But they stayed that way, Mother and Son. When they did part he looked down into her sparkly amber eyes and smiled. He wished his eyes were that striking in their stability. “I’m glad I’m home too. It’s...a relief to return. I was lost...So lost.” He nodded at Esme, and her comforting words. “Come on,” He grasped her cold hand in his own. “I owe you all an explanation. A few actually.”
