SHE SITS QUIETLY THERE LIKE WATER IN A JAR
Embry had decided to go with Marti to Port Angeles to do something or another. It was always better than sitting at home being bored or lonely. Embry was almost ready to go, he just had to find a pair of jeans and a nice t-shirt that fit him well. He nodded, that was as good as it was going to get for him. As he left his room he grabbed a jacket just in case he ended up needing it later on in the day. His cell phone was in his pocket, along with his wallet in his back pants pocket. He had everything he needed.
He walked out of his room and walked into the living room to give him mom a kiss on the cheek. ”I’m just going out to Port Angeles with Marti, I have my phone with me. I should be back in a couple of hours.” Embry said finally before leaving his house where he lived with his mother. Embry ran out to his truck because it was misting outside. He got into it and pulled down the sun visor and out fell his keys. He didn’t really see why to lock it up. He started the truck and took off towards Marti’s house to pick her up, he didn’t see why they should drive down separately at all.
Embry pulled into Marti’s drive way and honked the horn a few times, then saw her come out and get in the truck he just gave her a smile as he backed up and head towards Port Angeles, it wouldn’t take that much time to get there. Embry said a simple hello to her and then they took off. The radio was on the whole time while they were traveling. As he predicted, it didn’t take that long to get to Port Angeles. He pulled into a parking spot close to the board walk. That’s where they would start, he turned the truck off and gave Marti a smile. ”Come on Marti, time to get out.” Embry said as he got out of the truck, walking to the front. Waiting for Marti to met him there.
Embry looked around him, it was a nice day today actually. No sun, but there wasn’t hardly any wind to make it cold out. The clouds were hiding the sun as usual, but it was still light outside, Embry had gotten used to this sort of weather, its what he had grown up with since he was little.

That morning, Marti had an outing planned with the well known best friend of Quil Ateara. Embry was one of her few close friends. She felt more comfortable around him than she did Quil or Jake simply because they’d spent more time together than most people. Back in the day, Jessica had harbored a huge crush on Embry, thus Jess had insisted he be around a lot. Marti had been given no choice but to tag along… a lot. Thus formed their relationship. She and Embry had decided to get out of La Push for the day and go wander around Port Angeles. It definitely beat sitting around at home all day…even if it was cold and about to snow…sitting around home would be SO much worse.
Fifteen minutes before he was supposed to arrive, Marti rolled out of bed, and pulled a pare of jeans off a chair in the corner of her room. She tugged them on quickly, and quickly followed with a large, gray, hooded sweater. Barefoot and yawning, Marti moved towards the small bathroom across the hall from her bedroom. She stared at her reflection for a moment before tugging a brush through her long, wavy, brown hair, then tightly braiding it. Before even finishing the braid, she heard someone honking impatiently out front. He was early. Marti sighed heavily as she darted to her room and grabbed shoes and socks. She pulled them on quickly before heading towards the front of the house.
“Embry and I are going to Port Angeles for the day. I have my phone on me.” Marti told her mother shortly, then walked out of the house without a goodbye. She waved at Embry after closing the door, then stuffed her hands into the front pocket of her sweater while moving towards his car. Marti seated herself in his truck, pulled on her belt, and mumbled a hello in response to his own. Then the truck was moving.
It was nice to be able to sit in silence, not worry about keeping conversation going the whole time they were in the other‘s presence. Sometimes silence could be peaceful…ok, not silence but the lack of conversation. Marti fiddled with the radio as they headed along the winding roads, heading towards Port Angeles. A familiar song came on the radio after flipping through a few different stations. Marti began to sing along with it softly.
“…her two kids in high school, tell her that she’s uncool. But she’s till preoccupied….” Of course, how could someone listen to Bowling for Soup and NOT sing along? While the familiar lyrics rolled off her tongue, Marti hugged her knee’s to her chest, resting the heals of her feet on the edge of her seat, her toes bouncing to the beat of the song.
The drive didn’t take too long, unfortunately when they did get there, another favorite song of Marti’s had began to play on the radio. She was singing along when Embry told her it was time to get out. She mock-pouted, but went along with his order. She had little choice when he took his keys away after all. As soon as the small chunk of metal left the ignition the song died.
“C’mon Em! Such a kill joy. I like that song!” She argued once she reached the front of his truck. Marti took a moment to marvel at the weather. It wasn‘t warm really, but at least there wasn‘t an arctic wind like usual. “So what now? Movie? Shoe shopping?” Marti inquired as the two of them headed towards town.

Embry had noticed on the way up there that Marti had turned on the radio and started singing along with the tunes, not that he minded much, she had a nice voice. So instead of saying anything he just listened to her. It was better than letting his mind wonder on the way up there. It was better to have his mind going on one thing other than letting it roam wild, you knew know what would come up on his mind.
Marti started singing along with “Blowing for Soup” and she just smiled. It was a good band he had to admit. He looked over at Marti and she had her arms wrapped around her knee’s, hugging them. Her feet were bouncing with the beat. ”I guess you love this song Marti?” He asked and nudged her slightly, probably throwing her off beat. He just smiled and turned back to the road, to keep watch on what he was doing exactly.
Embry had a huge smile plastered on his face when he had watched Marti’s face as he had told her it was time to get out of the car. She had a little fake pout on her face, he just laughed once he was out of the truck, as he had waited for her to get over to him when her little voice floated over to his ears and he just laughed. Embry just reached his hand out and messed with her hair, ”I’m sorry, we just needed to get out of the truck if you wanted to do anything here.” He said and pulled his hand back and smiled, ”Plus you can listen to the song later. Promise.”
They started heading towards town and she asked what the would do. He thought for a second and shrugged, ”I don’t know, what do you want to do Marti?” He asked, he had no clue on what he wanted to do. He didn’t much care. But then he thought about it a second longer, and he realized that he was a bit hungry. ”How about we grab something to eat before we do anything, how ‘bout that?” He asked and looked over to her, and waited for her reply.
